The Portuguese Cooperation Cluster on Mozambique Island is a project funded by the Institute for Cooperation and Language (Cames, I.P.) and the Government of the Republic of Mozambique. It is dedicated to promoting the integrated development of the island and enhancing its historical and cultural heritage.
After the success of the first portal developed by JAVALI in Drupal 7, the team was once again chosen to create a new version of the platform — now in Drupal 10. The aim is to modernize communication, strengthen the tourism component, and provide a more inclusive and intuitive digital experience.
The migration to Drupal 10 represented more than a technological upgrade: it was about building a new platform, with a completely renewed design, architecture and functionalities.
The main challenges included:
- Creating a more modern, visually appealing portal with simplified navigation;
- Strengthening the institutional and tourist communication of Ilha de Moçambique;
- Providing an online booking tool for accommodation and guided tours;
- Ensure digital accessibility and optimized performance;
- Centralize information from multiple partner entities in a single system.
JAVALI developed the new portal in Drupal 10, using a completely redesigned architecture and good accessibility and SEO practices.
The solution's main highlights:
- Controlled migration of content and data from the old portal in Drupal 7.
- New responsive and accessible design, adapted to any device.
- Modular structure for managing institutional, cultural and tourist information.
- Integration of a booking and accommodation management tool.
- Multilingual support (Portuguese and English).
- Implementation of advanced caching and performance optimization mechanisms.
The new Mozambique Island portal has a renewed visual identity and a more fluid, user-centered browsing experience.

- It offers an intuitive platform for bookings and information requests;
- Ensures compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG) and good SEO practices;

The experience gained in migrating from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10 on the Mozambique Island enabled JAVALI to consolidate restructuring and data migration methodologies applicable to highly complex projects.
The work carried out reinforced the company's contribution to the Drupal community, particularly in the application of digital accessibility practices, multilingual management and the integration of online reservations, which can be replicated in future international projects.
