Banco de Portugal launches institutional portal in Drupal 7

Banco de Portugal is the central bank of the Portuguese Republic, with responsibilities that include regulating, monitoring and promoting the smooth functioning of payment systems, managing the country's external availability and advising the Government on economic and financial matters.
As a regulator of the banking sector, Banco de Portugal also plays a key role in producing monetary and financial statistics, as well as in overseeing the stability of the national financial system.
The previous institutional website no longer corresponded to Banco de Portugal’s needs in terms of:
- Information architecture and usability;
- updated visual identity and adapted to new digital standards;
- Providing modern content such as infographics, galleries and videos;
- compatibility with different devices and digital accessibility;
- Ability of technological evolution, eliminating redundancies and ensuring integration with other digital channels of the institution.
In partnership with Novabase, JAVALI participated in the development of the new institutional portal of Banco de Portugal, launched in 2016, as part of the celebrations of the institution's 170th anniversary.
The choice of Drupal as central technology allowed:
- fully redesign the information architecture;
- Renew the visual identity and implement a modern and responsive design;
- provide new types of multimedia content (infographies, galleries and videos);
- Create a flexible and scalable backoffice for autonomous content management;
- Replace the previous technology platform with a more robust and sustainable solution.
The new institutional portal of Banco de Portugal strengthened its digital communication and became a strategic channel of proximity to citizens, businesses and media:
- Full modernization of the institutional website, adapted to the latest digital communication trends;
- Creating content compatible with all devices, with mobile-first design;
- greater dynamism in the provision of statistical information, reports and official publications;
- Implementation of sharing features on social networks and multimedia integration.
Elimination of redundancy with other digital channels, improving information efficiency and consistency.

Contribution to the Drupal community
The Banco de Portugal project consolidated JAVALI’s experience in large-scale portals for regulatory and financial entities. The team applied editorial management methodologies and accessibility practices that became reusable in later projects, reinforcing the company's contribution to the Drupal ecosystem and its position as a trusted partner in critical and highly complex solutions.
