Founded in 1930, Secil - Companhia Geral de Cal e Cimento (General Lime and Cement Company) has consolidated its position as one of the main references in the building materials sector, with a presence in Portugal and in several international markets.

Today, the Secil Group is made up of several companies specializing in the production and sale of cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates and mortars, committed to innovation, sustainability and quality.
Since 2011, Secil has been a member of the European Awards for the Environment program, in the Management category, reinforcing its environmental and social commitment.

As part of its digital modernization strategy, the group decided to revamp the websites of Argibetão, Secil Britas, Secil Prebetão and Unibetão. The aim is to strengthen the identity of each brand, improving the browsing experience and unifying the group's digital ecosystem.

The Secil Group companies identified the need to update their digital platforms, making them more current, functional and consistent with the group's visual identity.

The main challenges were:

  • Modernize the digital image of the group's various companies, reinforcing visual and corporate coherence;
  • Improving the browsing experience and accessibility on multiple devices;
  • Optimizing content management and ensuring autonomy for internal teams;
  • Unify good technical and design practices on a common technological basis, based on Drupal;
  • Increase the online visibility of the different brands, reinforcing the group's positioning in its market segments.

Based on the needs of the group's companies - Argibetão, Secil Britas, Secil Prebetão and Unibetão - JAVALI developed tailor-made websites using the Drupal content manager, guaranteeing best practices in search engine optimization (SEO), digital accessibility and a responsive design adapted to any device (desktop, tablet or smartphone).

The main features and functionalities include:

  • Design aligned with the Secil Group's visual identity, reflecting its values of innovation, solidity and sustainability.
  • Advanced SEO optimization, ensuring better performance and visibility in search engines.
  • Enhanced accessibility, ensuring inclusive navigation for people with visual impairments.
  • Unified backoffice, simplifying the creation, editing and updating of content by internal teams.
  • Integration of catalogs and technical sheets, with an organized structure and filtering by product type.
  • Autonomous editorial management, with the possibility of customization by brand and language.

Specific functionalities per website

  • Secil Prebetão: development of a slab calculation simulator, allowing users to calculate optimized prefabricated slab solutions for their projects.
  • Secil Britas and Unibetão: implementation of a more organized and intuitive structure, providing simplified navigation, quick consultation of products and viewing of reference works.
  • Argibetão: creation of a multilingual website, with clear and up-to-date navigation, and integration of a roof tile calculator, which automatically displays the total quantity of roof tiles required based on the roof area entered by the user.

The project resulted in the creation of a set of modern, consistent and accessible websites that reinforce the digital presence and positioning of the Secil Group's brands.

The main results achieved include:

  • Technological unification based on Drupal, ensuring scalability and simplified maintenance;
  • Reinforcement of the visual identity of the Argibetão, Secil Britas, Secil Prebetão and Unibetão brands;
  • Modern and intuitive design, with a focus on usability and accessibility;
  • Greater autonomy for internal teams, with decentralized editorial management;
  • Improved performance and SEO, ensuring greater visibility and digital reach;
  • Enhancement of institutional communication through a coherent, user-oriented graphic language.

Contribution to the Drupal community

The project consolidated JAVALI's best practices in componentization of specific functionalities (e.g. technical calculators), accessibility and SEO in Drupal. The component-oriented approach and the standardization of content models will serve as a basis for future projects with similar requirements in the building materials sector.
